1 Master & 1 PhD Thesis on non-invasive molecular imaging of engineered T cells

The Institute of Virology (Prof. Protzer) and the Professorship of Molecular Imaging (Prof. Westmeyer) in the Department for Nuclear Medicine (Director Prof. Weber) are inviting applications for

1 Master & 1 PhD Thesis on non-invasive molecular imaging of engineered T cells

Genetically engineered T cells hold great promise as novel medicines against cancer and chronic viral infections. Future therapeutic applications would, however, benefit if the engineered cells could be tracked non-invasively throughout the body and their function assessed remotely.
To achieve this, we develop new gene reporters and molecular sensors for non-invasive molecular imaging of T cells and offer the current theses on a key project within this research program.

Our research facilities at Institute of Virology of TUM (https://www.virologie.med.tum.de/en/home/) and the Institute for Biological and Medical Imaging (http://www.helmholtz-muenchen.de/en/ibmi/) at the Helmholtz Zentrum München are equipped with state-of-the-art molecular biology laboratories as well as multimodal imaging systems, including small animal MRI machines, PET/CT, multiphoton microscopy and Multispectral Optoacoustic Tomography (MSOT).

You have

  • a strong interest in mammalian cell engineering, synthetic biology, and immunology
  • practical experience in molecular biology (molecular cloning, PCR, Western Blotting, IHC etc.) and mammalian cell culture techniques
  • the ability to work in a self-motivated manner
  • very good English language and organizational skills

.....and are highly motivated to work in an interdisciplinary team of biologists, medical professionals, biological engineers, and biochemists!

We offer
state of the art facilities and a creative, multi-disciplinary and intellectually stimulating scientific community.

The University Hospital “Klinikum rechts der Isar” of Technische Universität München strives to increase the proportion of women. Applications from women will therefore be most welcome. Candidates with disabilities will be given preference if equally well qualified. Payment is according to tarif (TV-L). We give priority to severely disabled applicants with essentially equal qualifications.

How to apply
If you are interested in joining our team, please get in contact with Prof. Westmeyer (gil.westmeyer<at>tum.de).
Applications with a motivation letter, a short description of research interests, details of previous research, and your CV should be sent in a single pdf file.
Please also do not hesitate to contact us should you have further questions regarding the position.
